YouTube’s most viewed video of all time is an unlikely champion. Seen more than 170 million times since its posting in May 2007, “Charlie Bit My Finger” was never meant to be anything more than a family flick. The Greek philosopher Plato (427-347 BC) describes in his dialogs ‘Critias and Timaeus’ the disappearance of Atlantis, a circular island populated by talented people of high culture and wealth. In the modern era, geologic and archeological investigations hint at an intriguing possibility – that the demise of Atlantis may be related to a catastrophic Bronze Age eruption in the Aegean Sea, which generated a flooded caldera and destroyed an advanced Minoan civilization living on the island group of Santorini.
